Jewish Federation of Palm Beach County Academic Scholarship Program
Sharyn and Stuart Frankel College & Post Graduate College Fund

Through the Sharyn and Stuart Frankel College and Post Graduate College Fund, the Jewish Federation of Palm Beach County provides scholarships for students to attend undergraduate and graduate programs at accredited, non-profit colleges or universities. The primary consideration for scholarships is financial need; however, a good academic record and Jewish community involvement are considered as well. The scholarship is intended to be the “last resort” funding to supplement student and family contributions, as well as other scholarships, and financial aid.

  • Applicants/Students must be Jewish
  • Students must be permanent residents of the Greater Palm Beaches (Boynton Beach North to Wellington West, through Vero Beach North) (the “area”)
  • Students may attend college/university out of the area; however, students must have a parent that continues to live in the area at the time the scholarship is granted.
  • Applicants must be (1) entering or (2) continuing studies at an undergraduate or graduate program at an accredited, non-profit college or university
  • Applicants must be enrolling full-time for two consecutive semesters
  • Previous recipients may apply for a renewal each year as long as they continue to meet the eligibility criteria; however renewals are not guaranteed

General Criteria

  • Applicants are eligible for up to $2,500 annually to defray the cost of tuition, fees, and books required for course load
  • Applicants must demonstrate financial need by completing the scholarship application
  • Applicants must have a minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA from most recent institution (high school/college) at time of application
  • Strong preference is given to applicants that evidence Jewish community involvement
  • Scholarship recipients will be required to provide evidence of enrollment prior to scholarship award disbursement
  • Scholarship recipients are encouraged to write to the Sharyn and Stuart Frankel College and Post Graduate College Fund and thank them for their contributions. Federation is authorized to publicize the names of scholarship recipients and reproduce copies of thank you-notes

Required Documents

Applicants must complete an electronic application:

  • A current, complete official transcript of grades. Transcripts must display student name, school name, grades and credit hours for each course and term in which each course was taken (as applicable)
  • Statement which details financial need, as well as career goals
  • Copy of the first two pages of your family's most recent filed federal IRS Form 1040
  • Applicants must submit their parent’s Form 1040s if they are claimed as dependents
  • If not, Applicant and spouse (if married) must submit their Form 1040s

  • Scholarships will be announced to recipients by email by the end of summer 2017.
  • Scholarship checks will be made payable to the academic institutions only and mailed to the student by end of August 2017 to forward to their college or university.

Additional Information

  • Recipients must continue in school the entire academic year without interruption, unless approved by scholarship sponsor. Failure to do so may cause the scholarship to be refunded pro-rata by recipient to Federation
